Marijuana leads to TV host's arrest in South Carolina

Cynthia Hardy, a television talk show host, is in hot water after allegedly possessing marijuana at the South Carolina State Fair, where she was scheduled to discuss social security in front of a live audience.

Hardy arrived at the fair before noon to tape her program when metal detectors were triggered as she entered the gate. The officers recovered a cigar case from her that contained a partially burned blunt and a rolled up blunt containing marijuana that weighed approximately 2 grams. The officers escorted her out of the fair. She was arrested and was charged with simple possession of marijuana.

According to her website, Hardy is affiliated with the Columbia College Board of Trustees. She hosts a radio program and an independent TV talk show.

Drug charges, such as simple drug possession, carry negative consequences. Those consequences can potentially be far-reaching and they can cause the person to have a great deal of difficulty in his or her life. In the case of a public figure, it is a big deal because it can affect his or her reputation.

In South Carolina, the possession, manufacture and distribution of drugs and other controlled substances is a serious offense. If convicted, an accused person, depending on several factors, may end up in jail. Probation and rehabilitation may also be recommended by the court for simple violations. Other than that, there are also fines to think about.

In a case like this, it may be ideal to contact a lawyer to review the facts surrounding the accusations. A well thought out defense not only can reduce the charges and sentence but it can also help eliminate possible complications of sensationalized court proceedings.
