Large heroin seizure leads to arrests of South Carolina men

Drug-related offenses can be varied in South Carolina. There are numerous types of convictions due to drug charges, including drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, drug manufacturing and drug trafficking. The sentences for each charge vary. The type of drug and its quantity are all considered in determining the appropriate sentence for anyone convicted of a charge.

Two men were recently apprehended by Lancaster County Sheriff's Deputies after an estimated four pounds of heroin were confiscated from an Indian Land home. According to investigators, this was the largest seizure ever of heroin in Indian Land. The value of the confiscated heroin is estimated to range from $400,000 to $500,000.

The Sheriff's Department received reports of possible drug activity at the Indian Land residence. Deputies watched the activity at the house and saw two people - a 19-year-old male resident and a 25-year-old Charlotte man - leaving the house. Deputies pulled the vehicle over because they knew the Charlotte man did not have a valid driver's license.

Deputies' search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a vacuum sealer, digital scales, balloons filled with heroin, a sawed-off shotgun, marijuana and four pounds of what is suspected to be heroin. The two men were charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, possession of marijuana and trafficking heroin. They were booked into the Lancaster County Detention Center.

The suspects face serious felony charges. Those charges are treated differently than minor offenses such as drug possession. Defendants tend to have less room for negotiation when it comes to felony charges, and conviction for the offenses could lead to lengthy prison time and fines, among other penalties.

In South Carolina, any criminal suspect can benefit from consulting a legal professional who is adept at establishing a strong criminal defense and is capable of steering cases towards a fair resolution.
